Exuberant and flamboyant brush strokes combined with rich, juicy oil paints are typical of Anne's style of
Flower Painting.
Her theory is that flowers and plants are constantly in motion – whilst growing they follow the Sun and
even cut flowers in a vase change and evolve over time - so it is
natural that she should want to portray a sense of movement into her
paintings of them.
Her flowers are not painted in stiff
regimented rows, they have their own personalities, they react with
one-another; their leaves, stems and flowers in a celebration of
wonderful colour and texture.
It is evident that here is a Gardener
as well as an Artist and indeed Anne finds her garden inspirational.
It is full of old-fashioned herbs and plants and since the creation
of a wildlife pond she has been studying the effects of sunlight on
water and how to paint it.
With so much to watch it is sometimes
difficult on a warm sunny day, when the air is full of swallows,
butterflies and bees, the pond constantly in movement with the frogs
and the heavenly scent of Rosemary and Lavender is in the air, for
Anne to tear herself away and get on with the painting!
